Image Optimizer FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are decoded and re-encoded with the browser's Canvas API inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Drop or select up to 50 images (50 MB each); the same format, quality and max width apply to all of them. Download each one individually or all of them together as a single .zip file.
Which format should I choose: WebP, JPEG or PNG?
WebP usually gives the smallest files for photos and graphics and is supported by all modern browsers. JPEG is the safest choice for photos that must open everywhere. PNG is lossless — use it for screenshots, logos or images that need transparency, but expect bigger files.
Why is the compressed file bigger than the original?
The original may already be well optimised, or you converted to a less efficient format (for example a JPEG photo to PNG). Try WebP, lower the quality, or set a max width to shrink the dimensions.
What happens if I add a file that isn't a valid image?
Files that aren't images, are empty or are too large are listed in an error message and skipped. Images that can't be decoded (corrupted or unsupported formats such as HEIC in some browsers) are marked with an error and the rest keep working.
Is metadata such as EXIF or GPS location kept?
No. Re-encoding through the canvas drops EXIF data, including camera details and GPS location, which also makes the files a little smaller.
