UUID Studio FAQ
- Which UUID version should I use?
- Use v4 for random IDs, v7 when IDs should sort by creation time (good for database keys), and v5 for deterministic IDs derived from a namespace and a name.
- Can I find out when a UUID was created?
- Yes for time-based versions. Paste a v1 or v7 UUID, or a ULID, into the inspector to decode its version and embedded timestamp.
- What is the difference between UUID, ULID and NanoID?
- UUIDs are 128-bit and widely supported, ULIDs are time-sortable and shorter in Base32, and NanoIDs are compact URL-safe random strings with a configurable length.
- Can I generate thousands of UUIDs at once?
- Yes. The Bulk panel creates up to 10,000 ids in small chunks so the page stays responsive, lets you cancel midway, and exports the full list as a .txt file with one id per line.
