Placeholder Generator FAQ
- What sizes can I generate?
- Any whole number of pixels from 1 to 8000 for width and height. Zero, negative, decimal or larger values are rejected with an error and export stays disabled until the size is fixed.
- Why are the 2x and 3x export options sometimes disabled?
- Browsers cannot allocate a canvas wider or taller than 16384 pixels, so retina scales are only offered when the scaled image still fits within that limit.
- Which formats can I export?
- PNG, JPG and WebP rendered with the Canvas API, plus SVG markup. Each can also be copied as a data URL, CSS url(), an <img> tag or Markdown.
- Are my images uploaded anywhere?
- No. Every image is drawn locally in your browser and nothing is sent to a server, so placeholders work offline and stay private.
